What possibilities can emerge in a speculative poem? Join poet Sally Wen Mao for a workshop on developing the poetic voice of your speaker in wild and mysterious ways, harnessing the powers of speculation, imagination, and fabulism. In this class, writers will generate new poems based on fun writing exercises and share what they come up with, as well as discover the techniques of speculative poets including Tracy K. Smith, Franny Choi, and Vievee Francis, among others. Writers will also have a chance to workshop the results of their practice once during the course of the 5-week session.
A limited number of scholarships are available to cover or subsidize the cost of tuition. To inquire about scholarship opportunities, email parker@poetrysociety.org.
