Guided by writer and tree lover Francesca Hyatt, children ages 6–12 (and their caregivers) will explore the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Discovery Garden and use their senses and feelings to write poems during this one-hour program.
Day-of registration is required to participate. BBG staff will post a paper sign-up sheet at 10:00 a.m. in the Hamm Children’s Learning Courtyard (in the Discovery Garden). Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to 20 poets.
This workshop is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's Family Discovery Days program series and is free with admission to the Botanic Garden.
Francesca Hyatt is a writer, translator, and professor of English at CUNY-Queens College. She is a winner of the Birdhouse Prize for her chapbook manuscript Forestwish (Ghostbird Press, 2022) and has work published in KtB Magazine, Beyond Words Literary Magazine, and more. Together with Marine Cornuet she is a founding editor of Clotheslines, a new literary journal and is a co-editor of the forthcoming anthology Eating Alone. She lives in Brooklyn with her plants.
