For nearly five centuries, the rich tapestry of Latino poetry has been woven from a wealth of languages and cultures. The Latino poetic imagination has flourished in the United States, distinguished by its profound engagement with pasts both historical and mythic; its reckoning with the complexities of language, land, and identity; and its vision of a nation enriched by the stories of immigrants, exiles, refugees, and their descendants.

Join poet, editor, and Distinguished Professor Rigoberto González for a survey of this enchanting history, structured around the poetry presented in Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology.

During this two-session seminar, offered by the Poetry Society of America in partnership with the Library of America, González will lecture and lead in-class reading and lively discussion. Students will be required to acquire (purchase or borrow) the anthology for assigned reading.
