Join acclaimed poet and publisher Joshua Edwards for this crash-course reading group in contemporary poetry. In “The Radical Poetics of Everyday Life,” Edwards will lead an exploration of the work of five major contemporary poets. This class will illuminate the landscape of contemporary poetry, focusing on how writers in the late 20th and early 21st centuries have created new poetic forms through meditations on time’s passage, sensory experience, and the activity of writing itself. From the erudite perambulations of Anne Carson to the philosophical introspection of Simone White, five authors present us with radical insights that help us to reimagine the world and our attention to it. This course is open to students seeking a first foray into reading poetry and to seasoned readers of poetry looking for a structured reading environment.
